The investigations with higher heat flux were continued in SMC2. Figure 2.21 shows the variation of the standard deviation of pressure drop fluctuation with applied effective heat flux at G = 98 kg/m2 s, for SMC2. This plot reveals that initially the amplitude of pressure drop oscillation increases with increase in effective heat flux. This trend is continued till nucleate boiling regime prevailed, and then reduction in the amplitude of pressure drop oscillation was observed with further rise in heat flux. Flow visualization revealed that with the onset of annular flow regime, the amplitude of pressure drop oscillation reduced to minimum. This condition was reached corresponding to heat flux higher than 170 W/cm2. Same is confirmed by the experimental data in this plot. Hence, under this operating condition, stable flow boiling existed within the straight microchannel without any flow reversals being observed.
